The private law foundation legally recognized under the name of Pietà de’ Turchini since 2010, originates from the musical association established in 1984 under the name of Cappella della Pietà de’ Turchini – Center of Ancient Music which later became the Center of Ancient Music in 1997 Pietà de’ Turchini. The founding idea was to give life to a project of valorization and interdisciplinary research, with a focus on the extraordinary southern and especially Neapolitan musical and theatrical heritage of the 16th-18th centuries, investigating its reflections and very strong links with contemporary production European musical and theatrical.
In the many years of cultural militancy, the Pietà de’ Turchini has collected important recognitions such as the highly coveted prizes of the Franco Abbiati National Association of Music Critics, of which it has been awarded twice, the first in 1997 for “the enterprising and irreplaceable contribution to the rediscovery executive and editorial critic of the Neapolitan baroque”; the second in 2020, for the Volcanic Talents project, which “Best musical initiative”, to which is added the Efesto Award – Mediterranean of the Association of Historical Family Companies of Campania I Centenari, for “the contribution to the cultural development of the territory and the prestige of the Campania Region in Italy and in the world” in addition to the prestigious awards and feedback to musical projects and to recordings and audiovisual products created in many years in which the role of aggregation center has been achieved of productive exchange between musicians, ensembles, scholars, researchers for the benefit of a positive and cultured image of the city of Naples throughout the world.
