Cradle of art, science, and innovation, Padua is a city of timeless charm, capable of blending its extraordinary historical heritage with a growing vocation for hosting conferences and congresses.

Known worldwide as the “city of frescoes”, Padua has recently received its second UNESCO recognition for the site “Padova Urbs Picta”, which includes the outstanding 14th-century fresco cycles, featuring masterpieces by Giotto. This accolade complements the one awarded to the city’s Botanical Garden, the oldest university botanical garden in the world, still active today.

The city of Giotto, Petrarch, Mantegna, Galileo, and Palladio, Padua is also home to one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Europe – the University of Padua, founded in 1222 – which remains a leading hub for scientific research and higher education. This is complemented by an excellent healthcare system, with a cutting-edge University Hospital and Medical Center, making Padua a prime destination for international medical-scientific and academic congresses.

Strategically located in the heart of the Veneto region, Padua is easily accessible through a network of major transport infrastructure: high-speed trains, a comprehensive motorway system, and three international airports nearby, with Venice Airport just 40 minutes away.

Since 2011, the Padova Convention & Visitors Bureau has been promoting the Meeting Industry and leisure tourism in the province, actively supporting the organization of events and conferences with a wide range of high-value services. Its activities include national and international promotion, participation in trade fairs and industry events, the organization of fam trips and educational tours, congress bidding support, and the development of integrated promotional projects.

The Consortium brings together the Padua Chamber of Commerce, major tourism promotion consortia, industry associations, and Padova Hall – the Padua Exhibition Center, along with a broad network of specialized MICE operators: hotels and congress centers, historic villas, exclusive event venues, DMCs and PCOs, catering services, transportation providers, technical and audiovisual services, interpreters, hostesses, and more.

Today, Padua presents itself as a dynamic and competitive congress destination, offering unique experiences and high-quality services within a historic, artistic, and culturally rich setting of exceptional value.

    According to the 2023 ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) annual ranking, Italy is ranked 1st in Europe and 2nd worldwide for the number of international congresses hosted – second only to the United States.

    Within this framework, Padua stands out, ranking 90th in Europe and 9th among Italian cities, reflecting its rising profile in the global meetings industry.

    In 2023, Padua hosted 5,969 events, marking a +14.1% increase over 2022. The city welcomed approximately 553,396 participants, across a total of 9,085 event days.

    This is a remarkable achievement that highlights the effectiveness of local strategies, the strength of its infrastructure, and the vibrancy of Padua’s MICE offering. Padua is increasingly asserting itself as a competitive and fast-growing destination in the national and international congress landscape.
