Among the various owners, the noble Serponti family, originally from Isola Comacina, stood out; they moved in 1169 following the destruction of their home by the Comaschi. At the end of the 18th century, the property passed to Baron Isimbaldi, but it was the Andreossi family that took better care of the park. In the early twentieth century, the property passed into the hands of Sir Astley and Sir Salton, until it came to the publisher Accame, the last owner before its acquisition in 1980. This was through a voluntary public subscription by the people of Varenna and the Friends of Varenna, with the intention of putting it to public use.
Currently, the facility is mainly owned by the Municipality of Varenna and other minor public entities and managed by R Collection Hotels.
