Teatro Filodrammatici is one of the oldest organizations in Milan - its original building dates back to 1798. It was a project by neoclassic architect Luigi Canonica, based on Giuseppe Piermarini’s drawings. In 1805 the theatre got a new name – Teatro dei Filodrammatici. It has hosted several famous presidents, members, teachers and actors, including Vincenzo Monti, Carlo Porta, Ugo Foscolo, Cesare Beccaria and Giuseppe Giacosa, as well as Giuseppe Verdi, the Conductor and harpsichord master. The original structure was replaced in 1904 with an Art Nouveau building (known in Italy as “Stile liberty”), by architects Laveni and Avati. Of that structure, only the façade was preserved, with stucco and iron decorations and floral weaving, typical of the time. The interior was completely rebuilt by the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni in the 1960s, due to its partial destruction during Second World War bombings. Teatro Fildorammatici is right in the heart of Milan, just walking distance from Duomo (the main square of the famous Cathedral) and alongside the world-renowned Teatro alla Scala, a milestone of Milanese culture. It is also located close to other key destinations of the city: corso Vittorio Emanuele II, piazza Affari, the fashion district (via Montenapoleone), and the Trussardi Foundation. At Teatro Filodrammatici, aside from theatrical proposals, there is the opportunity to organise conferences, art exhibitions and promotional events that require an exclusive and protected setting.
