This is how one might describe the transformation of Milan’s Ansaldo Steel Works into the imposing premises that house the Workshops of Teatro alla Scala, which until 2001 were scattered throughout the Bovisa, Pero and Abanella sites as well as at the Piermarini itself.
20,000 square metres, 150 employees and over 60,000 stage costumes. All this and more besides is to be found in the workshops housing the pavilions respectively named after film director Luchino Visconti, set designer Nicola Benois and costume designer Caramba.
This is where carpenters, blacksmiths, sculptors, tailors and costume designers all work to craft La Scala’s sets. It also houses the practice rooms for the choir and a stage of the same size as the one at Teatro alla Scala for rehearsals.
The heart of this great “performance hothouse” finds the Visconti Pavilion, a new multi-purpose site with a surface area of over 1,200 square metres which gives Companies the chance to organise events in an extraordinary setting.
Staff members at Teatro alla Scala are entirely at the disposal of Sponsor Companies to create tailor-made solutions that suit their individual requirements.
