Profile

History:
The actual Hotel was built in the 16th century as a Jesuit Monastery, in the middle of a centuries old park. It has been a hotel since 1822 and much of the tranquil and historical aura still remains. The ambience is more Old World than most vacationers would expect when heading for a sea-side resort.
The hotel name origins from the nymph “Colomeide” (honey pot) so called by the Jesuit fathers for its favourable position and for the fertility of its orange and lemon groves.
This oasis of tranquility has been the destination for such distinguished travellers as Goethe, Anderson, Freud, the Duke of Wellington and many more.
The Hotel:
The Grand Hotel Cocumella enjoys a superb and peaceful position on a promontory in one of the most picturesque corners of the Sorrento peninsula overlooking the Gulf of Naples on the Mediterranean coast. Its tranquil setting is just a 15 minute- walk from Sorrento’s busy main square.
The hotel has been entirely renovated in order to offer guests all the modern comforts of a 5 star Hotel within the 16th century architecture and - ancient charm.

An enchanting atmosphere prevails in all areas of the hotel from the beautiful park and terraces with breathtaking views to the delightfully appointed public rooms and lounges housing antiques.

Restaurants & Bars: The cuisine at the Grand Hotel Cocumella offers a rich selection of dishes, with the accent on preparation in the finest local culinary tradition.
“Scintilla” restaurant - overlooking the park, proposes dining al fresco during warm weather months, accompanied by piano music.
In the summer guests can enjoy lunch in the “Agrumeto” under the shade of the orange trees, by the pool.
“Coku” Robata Grill Fusion Restaurant and Cocktail Bar on the terrace overlooking the bay of Naples.
The antique cloister with a volcanic grey tuff well in the centre is today the wonderful dining room “Chiostro” that still conserves its antique conventional atmosphere.. It is the ideal venue for wedding receptions and gala dinners.
A huge selection of wines, both Italian and international, are available from the hotel cellars.

Accommodations:
The Grand Hotel Cocumella offers 46 Rooms and Suites. Accommodations have garden view, and some have balconies or terraces with breathtaking sea views and each room is different from the next. All rooms feature antique furniture.

• Standard room – size from 25 to 30 sq. mt.
Welcoming rooms overlooking the hotel park, decorated with original furnishings. Some still have an authentic fireplace

• Junior suite with garden/sea view– size from 35 to 45 sq. mt.
Delightful, spacious rooms with a separate living room.

• Suite with Garden or Sea view – size 50/60 sq. mt.
Suites feature a large bedroom with separate living room. Some have a large terrace overlooking the hotel gardens or the sea. One Suite features a private jacuzzi pool on the terrace.

In-room Amenities
and Services: All rooms and suites are equipped with air-conditioning, heating, direct dial telephone, satellite TV, minibar, hairdryer, safety box and wireless internet connection. All guest accommodations include: twice-daily maid service, daily laundry and 24-hour room service.

Beauty Centre: The range of elite services at the Grand Hotel Cocumella includes a beauty centre to provide Guests with total relaxation: massage with face and body treatments, Turkish bath – hammam, Jacuzzi pool.

Beach: Guests may take advantage of the hotel’s private sunbathing deck by the sea reachable either by the hotel’s private lift or by ancient steps carved out of the rock. Hotel guests are offered complimentary sun beds, towels and umbrellas during the summer season.

Recreation: The Cocumella has a very relaxing feel, it is surrounded by a centuries old park. The extensive and beautiful gardens stretch down to the large terrace overlooking the gulf of Naples.
Immersed in the park are an Olympic-size swimming pool and a tennis court.
The hotel also features a fully equipped fitness centre.
The hotel’s private tall ship “Vera” is available for excursions to explore the unspoiled coastline and neighbouring islands as well as for private charter.

For the sports-orientated guest, there are a full range of activities available: trekking, cycling, horse riding, sailing, windsurfing, diving and waterskiing.

Meetings: The Grand Hotel Cocumella offers different meeting rooms. The roman cistern of the ancient monastery has been transformed into a large conference room, that can host up to 250 people.
Other smaller rooms are suitable for top management meetings.

Points of Interest: Land of colours, mysteries, traditions and legends, Sorrento has always, charmed, amazed and inspired people to come and maybe even today encounter the Sirens, who according to the Greeks, were living in this sea to enchant with their singing and to bewitch visitors from all over the world, making them fall in love, persuading them to return.
Between the monuments and the antique villas there are the “Basilica di S. Antonino” which dates back to the IX century, the Cloister of San Francesco which was built at the beginning of the 19th century, the wonderful remains of the “Villa Pollio Felice” and the “bagni della Regina Giovanna”.
Of great interest is the valuable collection of paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries and the examples of antique ceramics and inlaid woodwork, typical of this area, hosted at the “Museo Correale di Terranova”.

Access: By car: from Naples airport (Capodichino) or from the Central Station in Naples, follow the signs to “Tangenziale-Autostrade” and then the Autostrada A3 – Salerno-Reggio Calabria. Continue up to the “Castellammare di Stabia” exit. Take the 145 state road and follow the directions to “Sorrento”.
On the way you will pass the small towns of Vico Equense, Seiano, Meta, Piano di Sorrento and finally you will see the sign Sant' Agnello, after one km there is the Town Hall, turn right and just follow the road until you find us.

By train: from the Central Station in Naples, make your way to the area for departures of the local train “Circumvesuviana”. Trains leave for Sorrento every 20/30 minutes. The journey takes about one hour and ten minutes (Sorrento is the last stop on the line). From the station in Sorrento you can take either a taxi or a bus to Sant’Agnello (it takes about 10 minutes).

By Bus: there are several buses daily which depart from Naples airport (Capodichino) and arrive in the main square in Sorrento. Once in Sorrento, you may take a taxi or a bus to Sant’Agnello.

By Hydrofoil: hydrofoils and ferries for Sorrento depart from the “Molo Beverello” jetty in the port of Naples. The hydrofoil takes about 30 minutes to the port of Sorrento. From there you can take a taxi, or a shuttle bus.
