Profile
Mama Shelter arrives on Lake Como with a preview season that promises to bring a new energy to one of Europe’s most iconic destinations.
Balancing timeless charm with a contemporary spirit, Mama Shelter interprets Lake Como through its own distinctive language: playful, spontaneous, convivial and authentically social. The result is a new meeting place where design, gastronomy, music and entertainment come together in an environment designed as much for those who live in the area as for those discovering it for the first time. Here, la dolce vita takes itself a little less seriously, without ever compromising on style.
Just 850 metres from the lake and a five-minute walk from Como San Giovanni station, Mama Shelter Lake Como introduces a new take on hospitality in the destination. Spread across two complementary buildings, the hotel brings together 150 rooms, a lobby bar, a restaurant with the signature island bar at centre stage, two rooftops, a sky pool, and flexible spaces for events and gatherings.
From breakfast to sunset aperitif, through lunch, cocktails and evenings accompanied by music, the day unfolds seamlessly, following the unique rhythm of Lake Como and its long Italian evenings, best enjoyed in good company.
The interior design project draws inspiration from the landscape and cultural heritage of Lake Como, reinterpreted through Mama Shelter’s unmistakable creative approach.
Botanical elements and Baroque influences coexist with local materials, artisanal craftsmanship and references to great Italian design. Unexpected nods to Italy’s disco culture of the 1970s also bring character to the spaces, adding rhythm, warmth and a retro touch with a contemporary appeal.
The 150 rooms offer a softer interpretation of the Mama universe, without sacrificing the personality that defines the brand. Terracotta, faded pink and grey tones are paired with polished steel, rosewood furnishings, graphic details and sculptural, backlit headboards. Bathrooms feature terracotta and white tiling, marble and polished steel washbasins, and generous walk-in showers.
Some rooms also feature private balconies overlooking the lake, the city rooftops or the surrounding mountains.
Mama Shelter Lake Como is also home to the Atelier spaces, four meeting rooms of up to 250 square metres. Designed with flexibility in mind, the rooms can be combined in different configurations or transformed into a single large space, making them ideal for meetings, events and special occasions, with a capacity of up to 149 guests.
Each Atelier is equipped with state-of-the-art technical facilities, available to guests for their working sessions, as well as dedicated break areas with Mama’s signature touch.
Rounding out the offering are private karaoke rooms, adding just the right dose of light-hearted fun to even the most formal occasions. Because at Mama, work and conviviality are never separate worlds.
Overlooking the lobby, Mama’s Kiss is playful, deliberately kitsch and irresistibly indulgent, changing character throughout the day to follow the rhythm of the city.
In the morning, it welcomes guests and locals with coffee and quick bites; in the afternoon, it becomes an informal space for meetings and moments of pause; at sunset, it transforms into the perfect spot for an aperitivo, accompanied by the atmosphere of the rooftops as they come to life.
Mama’s Restaurant expands the brand’s social experience into a larger, more theatrical setting.
The interior design pays homage to the gardens of Como’s grand palazzi through a palette of green and terracotta tones, Rubelli fabrics, Marazzi surfaces and bespoke sculptural furnishings. A fresco of climbing plants stretching across the ceiling blurs the boundary between indoors and outdoors, while a suspended structure with soft, lightweight forms frames the theatrical open kitchen.
At Mama, every meal is an invitation to share. The brand’s signature classics sit alongside seasonal local dishes, grilled meats and fresh catch, created for relaxed lunches and convivial dinners where conversation, toasts and good company leave plenty of room for the pleasure of staying just a little longer.
The experience continues on the rooftops, conceived as two distinct yet complementary spaces.
The first, reserved for hotel guests, features a sky pool framed by cypress trees, striped loungers and Murano glass lamps inspired by seashells. It is a tranquil oasis from which to admire the lake and the surrounding mountain landscape.
The second is conceived as a new meeting place open to the city. Aperitivi, sunset cocktails and evenings accompanied by DJ sets come to life around a striking bar made from Mutina bricks, creating a lively and informal atmosphere.
Mama Shelter Lake Como is not designed as a destination separate from the city, but as an integral part of its everyday life. It is a place to stay, work, eat, toast and celebrate, but also to meet, make connections and experience the destination in a new way.
Conceived as a true lifestyle hub, it welcomes locals and travellers into dynamic spaces that evolve throughout the day. A place where experiences, conversations and spontaneous moments naturally intertwine.
Informal, design-driven and unapologetically social, Mama Shelter Lake Como offers a new expression of hospitality on Lake Como: as sophisticated as the setting that surrounds it, but decidedly less serious.
