The Historical "Hotel Tiferno" derives its name from the original Latin place name of Città di Castello, Tiphernum Tiberinum. The Hotel is situated in the heart of this ancient, hospitable Umbrian town and looks on to a small square and the monumental church of St. Francis (beginning XIV century): Raffaello painted his famous "Wedding of the Virgin" in 1504 for this church, as well as other important works for the town's churches.
The hotel, which is one of the oldest in Umbria (1895), has been completely restored, strictly respecting the building’s original architecture. It is located in a small square in the historic center of the hospitable age-old Umbrian city, in a seventeenth-century palace that was once the monastery of the church of St. Francis, which is located nearby.
The rooms are enriched by a small collection of paintings by Alberto Burri, one of the most important masters of contemporary art and a native of Città di Castello. There is a collection of his museum works in "Palazzo degli Albizzini", just a short distance from the hotel.
