The Teatro della Società, this was its original name, opened in 1809. Built thanks to the activity of Bergamo noblemen, the Teatro Sociale was active until the 1920s. From 1974 it hosted mainly art exhibitions and shows, until the definition and beginning of the restoration work undertaken through a joint initiative of the Municipality of Bergamo and the Superintendence since 2006, which handed the city a completely recovered historic theatre. As well as a location for exceptional events. The Teatro Sociale in Città Alta is an Italian-style theatre with three tiers of boxes designed by Leopoldo Pollack. With an oval shape, the theatre has an original and refined appearance. In addition to its original theatrical vocation, it is an ideal venue for multimedia performances, conferences, and exhibitions, making it an all-round cultural space.
